We Love Arabs dives headlong into the toughest of questions—how can we co-exist within conflict?—and come up laughing.
Somewhere in Tel Aviv a Jewish choreographer enlists an Arab dancer to help create a work that will overcome stereotypes and fears, but it turns out that prejudice is more than skin deep. Power struggles rise, bodies resist control and it’s going to take a whole lot of humour—and more than a little hummus—to save the day.
Skewering choreographic fads and unconscious bias, good intentions and bad faith, We Love Arabs is at once a precise and ambitious work of physical performance and a giddy, irreverently comic dismantling of real world politics. This is theatre that will reframe the way you see the world and leave you gasping between the laughs.
Hillel Kogan is winner of the Outstanding Creator of 2013 award from the Israeli Dance Critics Circle for We Love Arabs.
