Glories of the French Baroque

Brenda Rae

Australian Premiere

Fri 06 Oct

Melbourne Recital Centre

$65—$85

A constant source of vocal allure with the kind of dramatic instincts that turn a flashy cadenza into an intense character study.

Audiences from Vienna and Paris to New York and Glyndebourne have fallen in love with Brenda Rae. It’s Australia’s turn to see what all the excitement is about.

The stunning young American singer has won accolades as a ‘golden soprano’, with a voice which has filled the world’s leading opera houses, concert halls and recital venues.

This year alone sees the Grammy-nominated artist playing the title role in William Kentridge’s production of Lulu at the English National Opera, the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with the Bayerische Staatsoper, Amenaide in Rossini’s Tancredi with Opera Philadelphia and starring in two new productions with home company Oper Frankfurt.

Somewhere amid the whirlwind Rae touches down in Melbourne for this Australian debut, joining the ANAM Orchestra, offering exquisite treasures from the master of the French Baroque, Jean-Philippe Rameau.

Pulling it all together is Australian conductor Benjamin Bayl who returns home from an impressive list of engagements overseas to share his extensive experience in early music with our up and coming young musicians.
