The Dancing Architects began in 2014 from a recognition of the parallels between architecture and contemporary dance around the creative use of space and movement.

Each year the group has supported Melbourne’s local dance industry through Melbourne Festival. The Architects have been Presenting Partner of various dance works, and have facilitated opportunities for Melbourne dancers—through masterclasses and workshops—to collaborate with and leverage the talent from the international dancers brought to Melbourne by the Festival.

In 2017 the group has grown its membership, enabling them not only to present IN PLAN, but to additionally fund the commission of a new dance work for Melbourne Festival, and to provide opportunities for our local dance community to have their work exposed on an international level.

Its membership is comprised of some of the best architects in Australia, internationally renowned designers of many of Australia’s landmark buildings.
